Abstract

1492104 Paper size composition NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP 14 May 1975 [20 May 1974 23 Dec 1974] 20401/75 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions D1-D2] A paper size composition comprises (a) at least one substituted cyclic dicarboxylic acid anhydride selected from those having the formulµ wherein R is a dimethylene or trimethylene radical and R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrophobic group containing more than 5 carbon atoms which is selected from alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, and aralkenyl groups; and (B) wherein R x and R y , which may be the same or different, are each an alkyl radical containing at least 4 carbon atoms; and (b) at least one emulsifier selected from those having the formulµ wherein x and n are integers of from 8 to 20, R is an aryl radical, m is an integer of from 5 to 20, and i is 0 or 1, said composition containing from 80-97% by wt. of the acid anhydride component based on the total wt. of the acid anhydride and emulsifier components. The size composition may be added to water to form an emulsion.
