Abstract

1491320 Sewing-machines HEPWORTHS Ltd 17 March 1976 [3 Dec 1975] 49620/75 Heading DIG A work guide, for holding the edges of two pieces of material in registration as they are fed to a sewing machine for seaming comprises a base plate 5 for rigid attachment to the bed of the sewing machine and plates 6, 7 supported on plate 5, a lower material edge being guided between plates 5 and 6 and an upper edge between plates 6 and 7 and first and second pressure means 11, 16 and 18, 20 being mounted on the base plate to apply downward pressure respectively on plate 6 and plate 7 which in turn bear on the material edges. The edges are guided laterally by upright members 21, 21' on the base plate. The pressure, produced by a pneumatic cylinder 11 and a spring 20 both of which are adjustable, is applied to the respective material edges at a single point determined by a hemispherical projection 24, 25 on each of plates 7, 6 so that the advancing force on the material applied by a work feed 3 has a turning moment about points 24, 25 to urge the material edges against members 21, 21'.
