Abstract

1487160 Securing upholstery OKE PLAST GmbH OSNABRUCKER KUNSTSTOFFERZEUGNISSE [trading as OKE RAINER VON DER HEYDE & CO] 22 Jan 1976 [2 Aug 1975] 02454/76 Heading A4M [Also in Division B5] A cover fabric 16 is secured to a substrate 8, e.g. a chair back rest or a wall, by means of an extruded plastics strip 1 of generally T-shaped crosssection with a crosspiece 6 and a flexible web 3, the web 3 being divided longitudinally of the strip by a cranked portion 4 into a deformable rest portion.7 merging into the crosspiece 6 and a free edge portion 5 laterally offset from the rest portion 7. The securing is effected by laying the edge portion 5 on the substrate 8 and securing by staples 10, inserting the edge 17 of the fabric 16 between the substrate 8 and the rest portion 7, wrapping the fabric around the crosspiece 6 to overlie the web 3, and inserting staples 20 through the fabric and rest portion 7 into the substrate 8, whereby the web 3 is deformed causing the rest portion 7 to be displaced towards the substrate 8 and the upper arm 12 of the crosspiece 6 to bend down so that the fabric is nipped in the gap 15 between the arm 12 and the rest portion 7 and the staples 20 are concealed. A further piece of fabric (not shown) extending to the right in Fig. 4, could be secured beneath the edge 17 of the fabric 16. Further, a layer of foam or other conventional padding may be disposed between the fabric 16 and the substrate 8.
