1486604 Swivel castors HOMA CASTORS Ltd 21 April 1975 [10 May 1974] 20716/74 Heading A4U [Also in Division F2] A swivel castor of the kind referred to in Specification No. 1367649, and also including an upwardly biased plunger 20 extending through the stem 15 and bearing on an upwardly biased pivoted brakeshoe 22, for braking the wheel 12, has the tail end 22b of the brakeshoe operatively connected to an upwardly biased swivel lock detent 27 that can move up and down in the lower part of the bearing housing 10b so as to project into a recess or hole 16b in the upper part of the bearing housing to lock said upper and lower parts whenever the plunger is partially depressed to an intermediate position without the brakeshoe being applied to the wheel. The upper part has two recesses 16b spaced apart 180 degrees. The tail end 22b is connected to the detent 27 by a screw 28 surrounded by a helical compression spring 30, a further coaxial conical helical compression spring 31 upwardly biasing the plunger 20 and brakeshoe 22. The plunger 20 is depressed by a cam 25 having a deeper recess 25a which determines the upper plunger position in which the wheel 12 can rotate and the fork 10 can swivel, a shallower recess 25b which determines the intermediate plunger position in which the fork only is locked, and a concentric portion 25c which determines the lowest plunger position in which both the fork and wheel are braked. Two castors may be linked to operate simultaneously, and the swivel lock on one may be immobilized. This can provide for tracking of equipment at one end only.
