Abstract

1486353 Liquid-jet cutting; working stones FLOW RESEARCH Inc 30 Sept 1975 [2 Oct 1974 21 July 1975 22 Sept 1975] 39988/75 Headings B4B and B5E [Also in Divisions B5 and E1] A constant flow, liquid jet cutting apparatus for cutting, e.g. fabric comprises a housing 24 having a flow collimating chamber 48 upstream of a nozzle assembly 26, the cross-sectional area of the chamber being at least 100, preferably 1400, times that of the nozzle opening 50. A high pressure conduit 20 is connected to the housing 24 by means of a connector 28 comprising an inner sleeve 30 threaded on to the conduit and an outer sleeve 32 threaded into a socket 34 of the housing, a lip 38 on the outer sleeve engaging the rear end of the sleeve 30 to press a forward tapered end 40 of the conduit firmly against a tapered conical face 42 in the socket 34. The nozzle assembly 26 is secured to the housing by means of a screw threaded cap 58 and comprises a housing 52 having a counterbore 64 in which is mounted a nozzle element 66 and a resilient ring 68. The above apparatus may also be used to cut rock, stone or wood.
