1480190 Activated sludge process DEGREMONT SOC GENERALE D'EPURATION ET D'ASSAINISSEMENT and L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUD 4 April 1975 [5 April 1974] 14027/75 Heading C1C In the activated sludge process, oxygenation is effected with pure O 2 or O 2 -enriched air in at least two stages, between any two consecutive stages of which the mixed liquor is treated to remove dissolved gases, e.g. by agitation, pressure reduction or purging with air or N 2 , optionally followed by addition of soda or lime. In the oxygenation stages the ratio of liquid volume to supernatant gas volume is preferably at least 20 : 1. The recycling sludge may be reactivated by oxygenation with air, O 2 or O 2 - enriched air. In Fig. 5, influent is fed via pipes 4A and 4B to oxygenation stages 1 and 3 which are interconnected via purger 2 and oxygenation gas pipe 7. Sludge from settler 9 is recycled via pipe 11. Other embodiments include three oxygenators and two purgers.
