Abstract
1476121 Coated electrode with siliconized surface CHEMNOR CORP 11 June 1974 [15 June 1973] 28643/73 Headings C7B C7F and C7U An electrode has a core of valve metal (Ti, Nb, Zr, Hf, Ta, W, Mo, or Al) coated with one or more noble metals (Ag, Au, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, Ru, Rh, or Pd), and has a Si-containing layer partly or wholly diffused into the noble metal, said layer being obtained by painting the noble metal with a silane, a silicone, a silicone oil, or not completely hardened silicone resin, and thereafter heating the painted surface. The silane may be RnSiX 4-n where R = alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl or alkoxy and X = Halogen; the heating may be at 200-600‹C for 1-60 hours; treatment may be after application of part of the noble metal, the remainder being coated on after the siliconizing step. The electrodes may be used as anodes in NaCl electrolysis in Hg cells, in diaphragm cells, chlorate cells, in sea-water electrolysis, for cathodic protection, or electrolytic oxidation/reduction.
