Abstract
1475741 Transporting hydrocarbon oils as slurries MARATHON OIL CO 14 Aug 1974 [23 Aug 1973] 35769/74 Heading C5E Hydrocarbon mixtures, such as crude oils containing 25-80% wax, are rendered more pumpable by fractionating the oil into a low pour point fraction, a medium pour point fraction and a high pour point fraction, congealing at least a portion of the medium pour point fraction and optionally a portion of the high pour point fraction, and mixing at least a portion of the high pour point fraction or a quantity of the original mixture with the low pour point fraction and thereafter dispersing the congealed particles in this mixture. The oil is suitably fractionated by distillation and the medium pour point fraction can be congealed by prilling, optionally after the addition of a surfactant such as a fatty acid, sorbitan monolaurate or petroleum sulphonate ; the congealed particles can be coated with calcium carbonate. The slurry can be diluted with a crude oil, straight-run gasoline or reservoir condensate; gaseous carbon dioxide can be mixed with the slurry which can be subjected to shearing prior to transportation.
