Abstract

1475479 Surgical electrode CORDIS CORP 11 Dec 1975 [14 Jan 1975] 50788/75 Heading A5R A surgical electrode e.g. for attaching to external heart muscle and providing pacemaking stimulation comprises a silicone rubber flat base 11 with an upstanding tab 13 through which a lead 15 extends, the lead terminating in a contact 21 exiting through the centre of the base and provided with a pyramidal cutting point 37, two prongs 31, 33 formed at the ends of a wire embedded in the base being used to attach the electrode by applying to it a “ turn after placing it on the muscle. The lead may be a helically coiled conductor 17 enclosed within a silicone rubber tube. In modifications the prongs are formed at the ends of a pair of parallel transverse wires and either point away or towards each other, flexing of the base causing the prongs to come together or move apart respectively, and release of the base when it is placed on the muscle causing the prongs to enter this muscle to retain the electrode, Figs. 4 to 6 (not shown).
