Abstract
1468371 Refrigerating UNION CARBIDE CORP 1 March 1974 [2 March 1973] 9265/74 Heading F4H Apparatus for holding a flexible pouch containing fluid in a flattened attitude for freezing into a thin layer-like article comprises parallel, planar plates 11, 13, Fig. 2, having edge connecting means on at least two edges and a jig having slots 49, 51, Fig. 6, formed in its sides 45, 47 within which the assembled pouch and plates are positioned during freezing in a bath of refrigerant (not shown). The jig has pairs of bearing rails (53) 55 and (57), 59 on the sides which plates are arranged to move into and out of contact with the assembled pouch and plates for clamping purposes. The rails (53), 55 are connected by pivotally mounted connectors 61, 63 and are biased by a spring 71, and the rails (57), 59 are pivotally mounted to the jig sides by a rod 79 which is cammed into contact with the plates by a lever 97. In a modification of the jig, Fig. 7, the bearing rail connects are replaced by slideably mounting the bearing rails by bolts running in slots. In a further form of the jig, the first bearing rails pivot about a shaft connected between the sides of the jig and a loading force on the rails is provided by a cantilevered rod.
