Abstract

1468065 Printed circuits SUMITOMO BAKELITE CO Ltd and SANSUI ELECTRIC CO Ltd 14 March 1974 [24 March 1973(2)] 11488/74 Heading H1R [Also in Divisions B2 and B5] A printed surface board comprises a baseboard 1 formed of inorganic fibres, an inorganic binder and an inorganic filler, the baseboard having a cured thermosetting resin impregnated therein, at least one surface of the baseboard having an electrically insulating layer 2 comprising a cured thermosetting resin bonded thereto and a conductive area 3 on the surface of the electrically insulating layer. The inorganic fibres may be formed of asbestos, rock wool, slag wool or mixtures thereof, suitable inorganic binders being portland cement, alumina cement, blast furnace cement, silica cement, flyash cement or a mixture thereof and suitable inorganic fillers being powdered lime, calcined gypsum, silica, alumina, calcium silicate, perlite, diatomaceous earth or a mixture thereof. The impregnating resin may be a phenolic resin, a silicone, a furan resin, a xylene-phenol condensate, an epoxy resin, an unsaturated polyester resin, a diallyl phthalate resin or a mixture thereof. The electrically insulating layer may be a coating of the resin, a layer of thermoplastic resin sandwiched between layers of a thermosetting resin, the thermoplastic resin having a melting point of at least 150‹ C., or a layer of paper or of woven or non-woven fabric, e.g. of glass fibres impregnated with a thermosetting resin. The thermosetting resin of the insulating layer may be a phenolic resin, an epoxy resin, an unsaturated polyester resin, a diallyl phthalate resin, a xylene-phenol condensate, an amino resin, a polyurethane, a silicone or a mixture thereof. The thermoplastic resin may be polyethylene terephthalate, a polyamide, a polyimide or a polyamide-imide. The board may be made by assembling the impregnated baseboard, the insulating layer and a metal foil, e.g. of copper, hot pressing the assembly and etching the foil; alternatively, a board may be made from the baseboard and the insulating layer and printed with an electroconductive ink. In the embodiment shown, an electronic device 5 is connected to the board by lead wires 6 passing through holes 4 punched in the board.
