Abstract

1467909 Treating siderite ore CLARKE CHAPMAN Ltd 3 Sept 1975 [10 July 1974] 30653/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division F4] A method of producing iron oxides from siderite ore (mainly FeCO 3 ) comprises feeding the ore into a reaction vessel having a pre-heating zone, a reaction zone and a cooling zone, passing cooling air into the cooling zone, allowing a controlled amount of air to pass from the cooling zone through the reaction zone to cause carbon monoxide liberated from the ore to be converted into carbon dioxide, the heat liberated by this reaction being at least the major source of heat for the reactions involved in converting FeCO 3 in the ore into iron oxides, passing the gases in the reaction zone to the pre-heating zone, passing the remaining air from the cooling zone to the pre-heating zone by by-passing at least a major part of the reaction zone, exhausting all gases from the pre-heating zone, and removing the reacted ore from the cooling zone.
