Abstract

1463400 Waist band ERIC BRITTON & CO Ltd 18 April 1975 [20 April 1974] 17425/74 Heading A3V A composite waist band strip 2 has a curved shape substantially in the plane of the strip and comprises an elongate strip 4 of longitudinally stretchable textile fabric and an elongate strip 12 of textile fabric attached to strip 4 at or adjacent to a longitudinal edge 4a, strip 12 being substantially non-stretchable. As shown, a stretchable parallel edged outer strip 6 is folded around stretchable inner strip 4 and intermediate substantially non-stretchable, strip 12. Strips 4 and 12 and the folded strip 6 have substantially straight and parallel opposite long edges. During stitching, strips 4, 6 are laid substantially flat under little or no tension while strip 12 is stretched. Stitches 14 pass through all the strips. In Fig. 7 (not shown) strips 4, 12 are sewn at 14 before being covered and stitched at 24 to strip 6. Strip 4 is a woven or non-woven fabric. It may be a fully shrunk stretchable inter-lining fabric. It may be a cotton or part cotton canvas interlining fabric cut on the bias. Strip 12 may be woven nylon fabric cut on the straight or a cotton or part cotton woven tape or ribbon. Strip 6 may be woven or non-woven fabric or a knitted nylon fabric cut on the bias or straight. Strip 12 holds one edge of strip 4 stable longitudinally whereas the other edge of strip 4 can be stretched longitudinally and can preferably remain stretched. Thus strip 12 and the first edge of strip 4 are at'the inside of the curve of the composite strip 2.
