Abstract

1461267 Lamp reflectors LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 5 April 1974 [10 April 1973] 17033/73 Heading F4R A lamp reflector comprises a dished body having a reflective coating on its inner surface, the body being formed of a cured, low profile polyester moulding composition containing glass fibres and a compatible internal lubricant chemically bonded to a filler. The preferred composition has the following constituents by weight:- 0À5 parts of tertiary butyl peroctoate (an aliphatic peroxy catalyst); 20À0 parts of a styrene solution of an unsaturated polyester resin; 15À0 parts of 0À25 inch length chopped glass fibres; 59À0 parts of a material consisting of a calcium stearate lubricant chemically bonded as a surface coating to a calcium carbonate filler; 4À0 parts of polypropylene adipate; 1À5 parts of finely divided polystyrene. The composition is mixed to disperse the glass fibres and placed in a hopper connected to a vacuum source to remove any air trapped in the mixture. It is then injected into a mould and cured at a temperature between 270‹ F. and 330‹ F. for 0À5 to 3À0 minutes. The body thus formed is coated with a base lacquer, preferably a polyester, epoxy, acrylic or alkyd resin, followed by a vacuum deposited aluminium reflective film and, if desired, a further protective coating of lacquer.
