Abstract
1459584 Preparing microscope specimens PERKIN-ELMER CORP 15 March 1974 [15 March 1973] 11648/74 Heading G2J Apparatus for holding a planar specimen slide 18 during rotation by a rotary drive (to produce a monocellular layer e.g. of blood, plastics or photoresist) comprises a support 10 which may be troughshaped with side-walls 14, 15; a coupling 20, 21, 22 for connecting the support to the drive; the support being shaped to define a support plane perpendicular to the axis 16 of rotation and having a pair of drive projections 21, 22 on each side of the axis. Each pair of projections 21, 22 extends away from the support 10 in respective parallel planes spaced at equal radial distances from the axis. The apparatus also comprises mechanical retainer means e.g. springs 28a, b for engaging the ends of the slide 18. The slide may be subject to a further retaining force due to the reduction in air-pressure inside the open-ended cavity formed by the trough 14, 15 and the slide 18 Fig. 3 when the apparatus is revolving rapidly. The apparatus may be surrounded by a housing Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) designed to reduce and trap the aerosol flung off from the revolving slide when in use.
