Abstract

1459117 Compost producing closet T M SUNDBERG 8 Oct 1974 43601/74 Heading E1C A compost producing closet includes a grid 11 to receive faeces from an opening 7, a heating element 37 on the floor of the closet's casing whereby, in use, the element is covered in urine and the casing also includes air inlets 55, 57, a fan 25 and an air outlet 27. The heating element is controlled by a thermostat 47 disposed under a cover 43 so as to contact a plastics layer 41 covering the heating element 37. The grid comprises parallel, triangular-sectioned tubes Fig. 4 (not shown) having drainage channels for directing urine to the rear of the closet. The tubes have holes 53 in their sides and are mounted in a plate 19 which defines with the closet's rear wall a ventilation duct 23. A rake 61 with a handle 67 is provided for cleaning the grid.
