Abstract
1453469 Mixing apparatus: vortex apparatus CHEM-TROL POLLUTION SERVICES INC 17 Dec 1973 58419/73 Headings B1C and B1F A mixer has an upper portion 16 and a lower portion 18 terminating in a reduced diameter outlet 20, a tangential inlet conduit 24 whereby a material is caused to flow in a spiral film down the inner wall of the mixer, and a sparger 36 for introducing a second material as a radial spray against the moving film. Mixing plant is described in which the apparatus is used for neutralizing spent said pickle with lime slurry, one of the metering pumps supplying the materials being controlled by the pH of the product, see Fig. 5 (not shown); treating cyanide waste with alkali and chlorine, the product being recirculated through a tower where it is further contacted with chlorine, see Fig. 6 (not shown); and rendering harmless the waste containing sulphur chloride and chloroform from carbon disulphide manufacture by treating it with lime slurry, the chloroform and traces of carbon disulphide being converted into gases and condensed, see Fig. 7 (not shown). Other applications are the treatment of wastes containing phosphonic acid, plating liquids containing chromium salts, pyridine solutions, boron trifluoride complexes, phenolic solutions, amines and amides.
