Abstract

1453385 Non-ionic surfactant KAO SOAP CO Ltd 10 Dec 1974 [11 Dec 1973] 53351/74 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] A non-ionic surfactant has an HLB of 8-16 and the formula in which n is 1 to 4, X is H or -COR where R is a C 9-23 alkyl or alkenyl radical; when n = 1 there is at least one -COR radical, when n = 2 or 3 there are at least 2 -COR radicals and when n = 4 there are at least 3 -COR radicals; the sum of m<SP>1</SP>, m<SP>11</SP> and m<SP>111</SP> is at least 1. In preferred compounds R contains 12-18 carbon atoms and when n=1, m<SP>1</SP>+m<SP>11</SP>+m<SP>111</SP>=2À5-40 when n = 2 the sum is 3-133, when n=3 the sum is 2À5- 167 and when n = 4 the sum is 5-200. Examples relate to esters of lauric, capric, oleic, palmitic, stearic and lignostearic acids.
