Abstract
1452808 Tin-plated steel sheet KAWASAKI STEEL CORP 2 April 1974 [3 April 1973] 14652/74 Heading C7B A steel sheet e.g. of killed or rimmed steel, is plated electrolytically or electrolessly with a layer of Ni, Cu or Ni-Sn of 0.005-0.5Á thickness, heated in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to an extent sufficient to completely diffuse the layer into the steel, and finally tin-plated. The first plating may be electrolytic from a Cu pyrophosphate or Ni-Sn acid-chloride bath. Heating may be continuous or box annealing at 600-800‹C for 1 min-10 hours. A halide electrolytic Sn bath may be used and the Sn layer may subsequently be reflowed by electric resistance heating. Conventional cleaning of the steel is effected e.g. by electrolytic and chemical pickling, and the final Sn layer may be electrolytically treated as cathode in Na 2 Cr 2 O 7 .
