Abstract
1451795 Ionization detectors PYE Ltd 8 April 1974 [29 June 1973] 31067/73 Heading H1D A flame ionization detector includes a hollow cylindrical body 1, a ceramic burner 6 mounted at one end of the cylindrical body and having a metallized portion 14 serving as one electrode of the detector, and a tubular electrode 12 mounted within the cylindrical body substantially coaxial with the burner. A second metallized portion 15 on the burner 6 serves to seal the burner to a plate 2 of nickel steel having bores 7 and 8 communicating with a bore 9 in the burner and receiving connections 10 and 11 from a gas chromatograph column and a hydrogen feed line. The electrode 12 is supported in a metallized bore 13 in an annular ceramic disc 13. An air-line 4 is received in a bore 5 in the wall of the body 1. All the metallized portions may be a platinum-based alloy. The construction maintains effective insulation of the electrodes 12 and 14 at temperatures which would normally necessitate increasing the size of the detector.
