Abstract
1450385 Fluxes for basic oxygen steelmaking, FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 17 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 38706/72 Headings C7D and C7M In basic oxygen steelmaking the rate of dissolution of lime in the slag on the surface of the molten steel is increased by incorporating into the slag in addition to the lime an additive composition comprising an oxide of boron, boric acid and/or a borate and one or more oxides of iron, aluminium and manganese, the ratio of lime to additive compounds specified above being in the range 10:1 to 15:1 by weight. The additive preferably contains in wt. per cent 10-80 boron oxide, boric acid and/or borate e.g. as colemanite, 10-70 Al 2 O 3 , 10-70 iron oxide and 0-40 manganese oxide.
