Abstract

1450345 Propellants HERCULES Inc 30 Sept 1974 42359/74 Heading C1D The burning rate of a solid propellant is increased by providing 0À03 to 10% by weight of graphite fibres of diameter 4-10 microns substantially uniformly distributed throughout the propellant composition. The graphite fibres may be randomly dispersed or aligned in the propellant matrix. Propellant bodies may be formed by casting or extrusion. The propellant may be single base, double base, triple base, composite, or modified double base type. Specified ingredients in the examples are nitrocellulose, nitroglycerine, carboxy-terminated polybutadiene, ammonium perchlorate, triacetin, Al powder, RDX, carbon black, and a surfactant, stabilizer, plasticizer, cross-linking agent, and ballistic modifier. Other ingredients referred to are nitroguanidine, hydroxy-terminated polybutadienes, polyethers, polyurethanes, HMX, PETN, and ethylene dinitramine.
