Abstract
1339561 Cables CONNOLLYS (BLACKLEY) Ltd 21 May 1971 [22 May 1970] 24940/70 Heading H1A A cable comprises a core 1 made up of a plurality of conductors 2 having individual insulation 3 and a paper lapping 4, a buffer layer 5 of a cellular plastics compound and a plastics sheath 6 the thickness of the buffer layer being 1 to 5 times that of the sheath. The core may be filled with a water impermeable medium e.g. petroleum jelly, and a water barrier, e.g. a metal foil, may be present between the buffer layer and the sheath or within the thickness either of the buffer layer or the sheath. The sheath and the buffer layer may respectively comprise the following: ethylene propylene copolymer (EPC) and cellular polyethylene; EPC and polyvinylchloride (PVC); polypropylene and high density polyethylene; or PVC and low density polyethylene. The buffer layer may be lapped on to the core in the form of pre-expanded tape or extruded directly on to the core and expanded by gas-injection or by a chemical blowing agent e.g. oxybisbenzene sulphanhydrazide polyethylene.
