Abstract

1338992 Change-speed gear control; clutch brake combinations 17 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 7506/72 Headings F2D and F2L A coupling mechanism for engaging discs 5 or 6, slidable on a shaft 4, with members 1 or 2 rotating at different speeds, or with one stationary to form a clutch brake, has a first control lever 16 to effect engagement and an auxiliary lever 32 which can override engagement to restore the mechanism to the neutral disengaged state. The lever 16 is held in set positions by a catch 19 and acts through springs 20, on a rod 15, to oscillate a shaft 13 to move a disc 5 or 6 into engagement through a fork 9 and finger 10. The lens 32 acts to move a slide 26 to engage a stop 24 on a bar 23 rotated by the shaft 13 so that the stop 24 moved towards the slide by the engagement movement is restored to the vertical position thus disengageing the engaged disc. This further movement of the shaft 13 further stresses the spring 20 initially stressed to cause engagement so that upon release of the lever 32 the spring 20 restores the original engaged position. A stop 34 holds the lever 32 initially in its inoperative position.
