Abstract

1336982 Battery power-pack D FLINN and E HARRISON 25 Nov 1970 [25 Nov 1969] 55964/70 Divided out of 1334651 Heading H1B [Also in Division H2] A power pack 10 for use under water comprises one or more batteries 16 in a housing 12 which is filled with an insulating liquid 14 and which is vented by a duct 18 having its lower end open to the liquid 14 and its upper end open to the environment above the normal level of the liquid in the housing. Gas evolved in use is retained within the housing and forces sea water-and/or a small amount of the liquid 14 from the duct 18, according to the surrounding water pressure. When on the surface, gas pressure may be released by a vent 22. The liquid 14 is preferably oil and the housing is provided with terminals 20. The power pack drives a D.C. motor (see Division H2) of an under-sea rock drill.
