Abstract

1333877 Gas-liquid contact tray F A HUGHES & CO Ltd 11 Feb 1972 [12 Feb 1971] 4589/71 Heading B1R A gas scrubbing column of rectangular cross-section has a plurality of vertically spaced horizontal bubble cup trays, each tray being formed by assembling together one or more pairs of identical rectangular plates 26, each plate having a row of openings 27 off-set relatively to the longitudinal centre line of the plate. The plates have downwardly extending flanges 30 on opposed sides and an upstanding flange 29 on another side. The openings 27 have peripheral upstanding flanges. 28 and in use are covered by bubble caps Fig. 4 (not shown). The plates are of plastics material or mild steel coated with plastics material, preferably polypropylene, and are assembled in alternate configurations 21 to 25 to provide a central downcomer 34 and opposed side downcomer 32. Liquid is supplied to the plate from an inlet duct 35. A gas inlet 13 with a serrated lower edge 17 is located at a lower level than an annular weir 18 surrounding a liquid outlet 19 so that incoming gases can be cooled by bubbling through liquid at the base of the column before passing up the column. A mist eliminator 43 which can be cleaned from spray bars is located at the top of the column.
