Abstract

1333729 Titanium alloys LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORP 23 Oct 1970 50590/70 Heading C7A A titanium based alloy comprises at least one beta stabilizing addition to a total addition Bp having a molybdenum equivalent (Mo Eq), of 5-9À8 from the following group:- or at least one of this group with not more than 75% Cu (Mo eq/wt % = 0.77) and comprising Al 1-5; Sn 1-15 Zr 1-15 in a total amount Bs having a molybdenum equivalent of 4-26 where Bs = Bp {0À15(wt per cent Sn) + 0À12(wt per cent Zr)} + 2e to the power {(wt per cent Sn) x (wt. per cent Zr)/So} -1À9 (wt per cent Al) and with the balance titanium. Preferably if the wt per cent Sn is less than 5 Zr is greater than or equal to 5 and if Zr is less than 5 Sn is greater than or equal to 5. The alloy may be solution treated in the range 1250‹ F - 1450‹F for 1/3 to 24 hours or isothermally transformed at 1470‹ F - 1400‹ F for 1/3 hours. It is then aged at 700‹F - 1200‹F for up to 192 hours.
