Abstract

1333438 Dispensing liquids under gaseous pressure SCHERICO Ltd 9 Dec 1970 [10 Dec 1969] 58483/70 Heading F1R A device for dispensing products stored under pressure, particularly medicaments for inhalation, comprises a housing 9 having a skirt portion 12 and a head piece 10 which has a boss 24 for retaining a valve stem 6, and a hood 40 which is movable between a guard position wherein an opening in the head piece 10 is closed and inadvertent actuation of the container's metering valve is prevented, and an operating position wherein the hood 40 forms a discharge tube for the product and for air mixed therewith, stops 27, (29) limiting upward movement of the stem 6 during dispensing. As shown the hood 40 is pivotally mounted at 46, (47) within the opening (34), Fig. 1 (not shown), which opening is closed in the guard position by a front wall 42 of the hood 40, the lower end of a rear wall 44 of the hood preventing inadvertent valve actuation. Medicament is discharged through a port 28, nozzle 26 and opening 50 in the hood 40, together with air which is drawn in through the space below the hood in its operating position. The skirt 12 has a cut-away 14 to facilitate container withdrawal and a rounded end 16 so that the device cannot be stood on end. The container 2 may be additionally held within the housing 9 by co-operating projections and recesses which latter may also be provided to hold the hood 40 open. Grooves 41, (43), one on each side of the head piece 10 allow the pivots 46, (47) to be inserted in their respective recesses during assembly of the device.
