Abstract

1332250 Vehicles W E HENDRICKS 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 26005/71 Headings B7B and B7E [Also in Division A6] A vehicle comprises a frame 12, e.g. in the form of a saddle for the rider, having a pair of support wheels 16 at the rear and providing at the front, means such as a pin within a tubular portion 110 for pivoting an arm 24 about a vertical axis. Arm 24 carries a dirigible wheel, e.g. a pair of roller skate wheels 52 intermediate the said vertical axis and support wheels 16 and, remote from the dirigible wheel, rider operated means for swinging said arm 24 to obtain propulsive effect. Said rider operated means may comprise a footrest 32 and hand grip 83. The arm 24 may be provided with a brake assembly comprising a frame 68, 70, 78 pivoted at 82 and carrying a friction pad 76, the hand grip 83 being mounted on the top frame section 68. The vehicle may be propelled by the rider-by swinging the arm 24 from side to side while leaning from side to side in synchronism-or by a pedestrian by means of push-rod 150. A further wheel 138 is provided at the rear of the vehicle to enable the rider to tilt the vehicle backwards and upwards and thereby to travel on wheels 16, 138 only. In a modification (Fig. 10) a combined U- shaped footrest 270 and handlebars 276 may replace bars 32 and 83 and be pivotable about horizontal axis 242 with respect to frame 12 (202) so that the brake shoe 258, 256 may be held in a raised position by means of latch 296.
