Abstract

1331988 Hot melt adhesive compositions ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 10 May 1971 [12 Oct 1970] 48316/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division B2] Hot melt adhesive compositions comprise (1) atactic polypropylene that has been subjected to heat treatment to lower its viscosity below 30,000 cps. at 170‹ C. and (2) an aliphatic thermoplastic hydrocarbon resin with a softening point of 70‹ to 120‹ C. The polypropylene may be heated at 200‹ to 300‹ C. for 5 to 40 minutes. Polyisobutylene, oils, plasticizers and fillers may also be incorporated and the compositions used for backing carpets. Examples describe compositions of polypropylenes, petroleum resins, polyisobutylene, chalk and antioxidant.
