Abstract
1330750 Piezoelectric devices; resonators NITTAN CO Ltd 23 Sept 1971 [1 Oct 1970 (3) 27 Oct 1970] 44399/71 Headings H4J and H4X A sound generator comprises a piezoelectric element 3 (Fig. 1) attached to the centre of a circular diaphragm 2 and arranged to be energized at a fixed frequency to produce a node circle of vibration 11 on the diaphragm 2. The diaphragm 2 is constrained beyond element 3 only at the node circle by one end of a resonance chamber 5 of right circular cylindrical form concentric with the node circle. Chamber 5 has an inside diameter essentially equal to the diameter of the node circle and is closed at the other end or has a reflector plate 8 (Fig. 5) facing but spaced from such other end. Cavity 51 is resonant at the operating frequency. Alternatively the diaphragm is energized to produce predetermined node circles 11, 12 (Fig. 3) and is constrained beyond element 3 only at one of the node circles by the end of one of a plurality of right circular cylinders having a common end closure plate. The cylinders are concentric with the node circles and have inside diameters essentially equal to the diameters of the node circles respectively. Three node circles (11, 12, 13), Fig. 4 (not shown), may be generated to correspond with three concentric right circular cylinders. The diaphragm 2 may be of metal and form one electrode of the piezoelectric element 3 or it may be made of synthetic resin. The diaphragm 2 is spaced from the cavity 51 by a number of projections 4.
