Abstract

1327635 Vanadium polysulphides UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 19 Jan 1971 2539/71 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] Non-stoichiometric vanadium sulphide having a sulphur to vanadium atomic ratio of from 0À8 : 1 to 1À8 : 1 is obtained by reduction of vanadium tetrasulphide with hydrogen at a temperature above 300‹ C. The mixed sulphide is used as a catalyst in a hydrocarbon conversion process. Vanadium tetrasulphide may be mixed with the charge stream to a reaction zone and the tetrasulphide is reduced to the non-stoichiometric sulphides by hydrogen supplied to the reaction zone to react with the charge stock.
