Abstract

1327028 Stratified fluorocarbon resin material SERCK INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 Sept 1970 [9 Sept 1969] 44415/69 Heading B5A A stratified fluorocarbon resin material comprises a layer of unfoamed fluorocarbon resin and a layer of foamed fluorocarbon resin integrally connected thereto. The fluorocarbon resin is preferably P.T.F.E. It is formed by compacting a layer of powdered fluorocarbon resin and then an adjacent layer of a mixture of the powdered resin and a powdered material which decomposes to form a gas at the sintering temperature and then sintering. The decomposable material may be an acrylic resin copolymer. The material may have regions where the unfoamed resin extends through the whole thickness thereof, this being formed by a die having recesses to form the thicker regions. If desired, a further layer of unfoamed P.T.F.E. may be applied to the composite after sintering so as to enclose the foamed layer totally. Various areas may be reinforced by suitable fillers or metal inserts.
