Abstract

1325997 Joint-making packing BENTLEYHARRIS MFG CO 16 March 1971 6941/71 Heading F2B [Also in Division F4] A heat-resistant gasket 10 for a self-cleaning oven comprises a sealing element 10a and a mounting element 10b which are spaced apart and covered by a flexible heat-resistant cover 40 (e.g. of braided glass fibre), the sealing element being formed of a tubular length of fabric 60 (e.g. of knitted glass fibre) over a resilient core 50, 55 preferably made of stainless steel wire. The gasket material may be made by knitting a wire sheath 50 over an advancing wire mesh 55 to form the resilient core, knitting a glass fibre sheath 60 over the advancing sheath 50, braiding a glass fibre sheath 65 over an advancing paper core 70, braiding a glass fibre cover 40, joining opposite side of the cover together with glass fibre stitching 45, shaping the gasket with a pair of rollers and applying heat to burn off the paper core. The ends of a length of gasket material may or may not be sewn together to form the gasket 10 which is secured to the oven door 11 by clamps 30 and protected by a cover 35.
