Abstract
1323845 Priming centrifugal pumps H J GODWIN Ltd 28 Feb 1972 9043/72 Addition to 1157767 Heading F1C A cylindrical swirl chamber 5 is incorporated in the inlet duct 3 of a pump 1. The swirl occurring in the chamber 5, which is induced by a tangential disposition of the inlet 13 and outlet 14, causes entrained air to separate from the liquid into a central region of the chamber, where it is withdrawn, via a central tube 15, an upper chamber 12 and an offset outlet port 8, by means of an ejector 9. Any liquid passing upwardly through the tube 15 is deflected away from the outlet port 8 by a splash plate 16. A check valve 6 prevents back flow of air from the pump outlet duct 4 during priming. The ejector 9 is energized by liquid or gas, e.g. by compressed air from a compressor 17 driven by the electric motor or I.C. engine 22 which drives the pump 1.
