Abstract

1323524 Closed circuit cooling systems WALTON ENG CO Ltd 30 March 1972 8893/71 Heading F4U [Also in Division F2] A heat exchanger system comprises an ex changer 60, Fig. 5 supplied with sea water by a pump 61, a valve 62 which recycles part of the sea water and allows part to be withdrawn from the system at 14, this part being made up by a corresponding quantity of water taken in at 63, and a refrigerating circuit 64, the pressure of the refrigerant serving to control the valve and thereby the quantity of water recycled by the valve. The valve comprises one inlet 12, Fig. 1, and two outlets 13, 14; a rotary valve element comprising two diametrically opposed plates 17 mounted on a shaft 19 and arranged so that the total effective area of the two outlets is constant for all positions of the valve element; a bellows or diaphragm contained in a housing 48 and adapted to be acted upon by the pressure of the refrigerant so as to move an actuating rod 26 against the action of adjustable spring-biasing means 33; and a ball-ended projection 23 extending into a cylindrical recess 21 of a crank 20 attached to the shaft 19 which thus moves in response to the pressure acting on the bellows or diaphragm. A similar fluid actuating system may be connected to the opposite end of the shaft 19.
