Abstract
1320769 Removing gaseous product from liquid phase reactions CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 13 Nov 1970 [15 Nov 1969] 54101/ 70 Headings B1M and B1X In an apparatus in which gaseous product or byproduct can be removed from the liquid phase immediately it is formed to prevent unwanted side reactions, liquid reaction mixture from inlet 13 flows round spiral flow channel 8, which channel is open at the top to allow quick release of gas from the liquid. Heat exchange medium can be passed round spiral conduit 7 which forms part of the wall of channel 8 to heat or cool the reaction mixture, and an entrainment gas from inlet 15 can be heated by coils 21 before passing through orifices 20 into the reaction liquid. The use of the apparatus in the trans esterification of terephthalic acid dimethyl ester with ethylene glycol is described.
