Abstract

1318378 Respiratory mask A S LAERDAL 27 Aug 1970 [2 Sept 1969] 41380/70 Heading A5T [Also in Division B8] A respiratory mask comprises a dome shaped portion 11, 12 surrounded by an inflatable bladder 2, and a blowing tube 5 axially slidable in a guide 4 so that it may be located within the dome or outside it as desired. Two strips 10 of a stiff film extend from the nose engaging and chin engaging portions 8 and 9. respectively to the guide 4 so that on deflating the bladder, the strips force the bladder into a position whereby it folds about the axis of the nose and chin engaging portions into the flattened position of Fig. 5 (not shown). The strips 10 may be formed by overlapping and glueing together of adjacent wall portions 11 and 12 or by inclusion of separate strips of material. The bladder is inflated by means of a hose 13 which may be closed by a grommet 15 on a projection 16. The blowing tube is held in its external position by means of cooperation between a peripheral rib 17 and a peripheral groove 18 in the guide. A thin inner lip 19 adjacent the groove can easily be bent back by the tube to allow the tube to be inserted within the dome. The flattened mask may be carried in a case 21 comprising two dishes 22 and 23 connected elastically at 25 and held together by loops 26 and 27.
