1313064 Dolls MATTEL Inc 15 Sept 1971 [18 Jan 1971] 42949/71 Heading A6S A doll comprises a hollow body 13 formed of cloth, &c with a filler 39 of solid particles inside it, a head 45 on the body and a stabilizer 49 extending from the head into the particles to hold the head in a selected position. As shown, the stabilizer 49 is a plug having four vanes 65 at right angles to each other extending into the filler 39, a flat surface 67 at the ends of the vanes preventing the plug being pushed in too deeply. A cylinder 51 at the top end of the stabilizer 49 is pushed into the head 45, which is e.g. of vinyl or other soft material, where it is retained by integral tabs 55, and the stabilizer and neck of the body are secured together by a tie string 59. In a modification, the stabilizer (79), Fig. 4 (not shown), comprises a flat plate. The filler 39 may be pellets of polyethylene, a mixture of expanded styrene beads and plain styrene pellets, beans, grain, &c. The rear of the doll is formed with a pronounced rump (42), Fig. 2 (not shown), and the legs 17 are short relative to the length of the body 13: the centre of gravity is thus kept low, so that the doll is self-standing. Separate moulded hands 29 are tied at the ends of the arms, and large feet 31 have flat bases 34 with protective layers 33.
