Abstract

1311925 Tennis racket MAARK CORP 21 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 40382/70 Heading A6D A metal tennis racket comprises an extruded metal frame strip shaped to partially define a generally oval section and a pair of spaced apart handle end sections, and a flexible plastics throat piece secured to the frame strip to complete the oval section. In Fig. 1, a generally oval stringing section 14 and two spaced apart parallel handle end sections 17, 18 are formed by a metal frame strip 12 of opposed tubular sections connected by a web section, a first channel being formed in the outer periphery and a second channel in the inner periphery of the oval section, and a plurality of holes being formed in the web in the oval section for the racket string. A plastics throat piece 19 having outer surfaces complementary to the second channel is secured to the formed frame strip to complete the oval section. A grommet strip 28 is mounted in the first channel, grommets formed on the grommet strip extending through the holes in the web, and a plastics handle is secured to the spaced apart handle end sections. The handle may be a foamed plastics material moulded around the handle end sections, and a wrapping of leather may be provided for the hand grip area of the handle.
