Abstract
1311600 Unsaturated acyclic alcohols L GIVAUDAN & CIE SA 1 Oct 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 45819/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises isomeric mixtures of compounds (I), where R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-3 alkyl or alkylidene, R<SP>2</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl or alkylidene and the broken line represents a single bond from the C 6 -atom to an adjacent carbon atom and their preparation by (a) methylating a compound (II) or (b) dehydrating a diol (III). Unsaturated alcohols (II) may be made by reacting ketones R<SP>1</SP>COR<SP>2</SP> with compounds (V), reducing the unsaturated diols (VI) and dehydrating the saturated diols (IX). Diols (III) may be made by reacting ketones R<SP>1</SP>COR<SP>2</SP> with the unsaturated alcohol (VII) and reducing the resulting unsaturated diol (VIII). 2,6 - Dimethylocten - (2) - yne - (4) - diol- (1,6) may be made by reacting 2-methylpenten- (2)-yn-(4)-ol with ethylmagnesium bromide.
