Abstract

1311654 Milling machines; slides and carriages E BARLOW 24 Aug 1970 [22 May 1969] 26180/69 Headings B3B and B3K Apparatus for machining the edges of a workpiece O comprises work supports C, Cl, and a facing head F carrying a rotary end mill Q, the head being movable towards the work along a guideway E, located on a carriage P, movable along a guideway A, on a bed B, the marginal portion of the work being supported by a pair of rollers J.L. Supports C, Cl, are adjusted on the bed and then clamped by bolts T, and the work is clamped on the supports by toggle or plate clamps D, which may be hand or air operated. Carriage P is moved along guideway A by a screw or rack. Roller L is mounted on an eccentric spigot I1, located on the under side of support C1, and is connected to roller J by a spring- urged turnbuckle N1, and levers M, K. Roller J is adapted to engage the workpiece, and is also mounted in an eccentric bearing H1, and a stop is provided which engages lever K so as to prevent roller J from engaging support C1 when the latter does not support a workpiece.
