Abstract

1310535 Grinding; machine tool details H A WALDRICH GmbH 23 April 1970 [24 April 1969] 19573/70 Headings B3B and B3D Apparatus for automatic roll changing in a roll grinding machine, roll turning lathe, roll journal milling machine or the like comprises a chassis 14 adapted to be guided from outside the ground plan of the machine, Figs. 1 and 2, a device movable on the chassis for engaging and lifting rolls at a stacking site, for insertion of a roll in the steady rests 7 of the machine, and for carrying out the reverse operation, and a guide and/or abutment device for aligning the device 21 parallel to the axis of the steady rests. The chassis is formed with columns 15, 16 and has wheels for engaging tracks 13 acting to guide the chassis for movement relative to a line of grinding machines 5 and a stack of rolls 27 to be ground. A track 17 on the chassis runs transverse to the rails and carries a travelling crab 18 for a gripper movable only in the vertical direction and provided with tongs for engaging a roll. The columns 15 are provided with shoes 22 for receiving finished and unfinished rolls 23, 24 for conveying to and from the rolls 27 at the stacking site. In another embodiment, the chasis 29, Fig. 4, is guided for movement towards and from the machine 5 by wheels 30 engaging rails. A shaft 32 is oscillatable by an hydraulic piston-and-cylinder 35, 36 and has a pair of arms 37 formed with shoes 38 for engaging the rolls for conveyance to and from the machine. The apparatus may be automatically controlled by feelers and switching abutments. In another arrangement, the chassis is in the form of a lift truck which is run against guide abutments on the machine for precise positioning of the roll in the steady rests.
