1309998 Roller mills; comminuting apparatus F M GOMEZ 28 Oct 1971 [6 Nov 1970] 50225/71 Heading B2A A comminuting apparatus 2 particularly for preparing abaca in the field and dewatering it prior to transport comprises a chassis 4, Fig. 1, having a material receiving station 14, at one end, an inclined chute 18 on the chassis with an upper end above the receiving station, an elevating conveyor 16 to lift material from the receiving station 14 to the upper end of the inclined chute 18, a cutting apparatus 20 comprising saw blades on a shaft 22 adjacent the upper end of the chute to cut material into predetermined lengths. Scrapers 29 and rakes 26 prevent clogging of the blades 20. A chipper 28 in the chute below the cutter chips the cut lengths of the material. A pair 40, 42 of opposed compression rollers is arranged across the chute below the chipper. Feed chains 32, 34 Fig. 2 which converge in the direction from the chipper towards the feed rollers define a squeeze pass 38 adjacent to nip between the pair of compression rollers 40, 42. An output conveyor 56 discharges material from the machine and can be swung up and down by means of a ram 58. After passage through the rollers 40, 42 Fig. 3, which have circumferential grooves 60, and axial grooves 62, and in the case of roller 40 chevron grooves 64, the material passes to a three-roller mill 46 and then via a further three-roller mill 52 to the output conveyor 56. The mills 46, 52 include adjusters 66. Water squeezed from the chips runs off via a gutter 68. The chassis 4 includes wheels 6 and tracks 8, and the engine 10 drives the components via a transmission 12.
