Abstract

1309739 Recovering copper from slag MITSUBISHI KINZOKU KOGYO K K 17 March 1970 12728/70 Heading C7D [Also in Division C1] Copper is recovered from slag by continuously charging a copper-containing slag into a treatment furnace, continuously charging a sulphurising agent such as pyrites, copper sulphide ore, sulphur or a mixture thereof into a melt bath in the furnace by means of a gas stream while causing matte and slag to flow out of respective tapping ports and maintaining constantly in the furnace a ratio by volume of matte to slag of at least 1:5. The contents of the furnace are intimately mixed by the gas so as to extract a substantial part of the copper from the slag into the matte. An additive such as siliceous flux or lime may be made to the slag.
