Abstract
1308229 Sinks with waste disposal units A G JOHNSON and A V G JOHNSON 11 Nov 1971 [12 Aug 1970] 38750/70 Heading A4N [Also in Division B2] A waste-disposal unit is arranged to be mounted directly on to a sink bush 10 of diameter less than 3 inches and typically of a diameter of 1¢ inches so that the end of the bush projects into the grinding chamber 15. As described the unit is mounted on the bush by a collar 19 of flexible material attached to the outer wall of the grinding chamber, the collar being compressed e.g. by circlip 21. The unit includes a splash guard 22, and a grinder plate 32, Fig.2, having pivoted blades 33 and apertures 37. These blades cooperate with a shroud ring 34 which includes semicircular recesses 35. These permit tramp material to pass. The lower face of the plate 32 includes four equi-spaced shredding blades 38 which cut up unground material which would otherwise jam the machine. A discharge impeller 39 below the plate 32 pumps the waste to the outlet 36. The grinding unit and motor can be removed for servicing and a by-pass pipe 44, Fig. 3, inserted, permitting continued use of the sink 11. (For Figures, see next page)
