Abstract
1307537 Winding webs WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 1 April 1970 [22 April 1969] 15397/70 Heading B8R A web 1 is wound into a coil 39 on a driven mandrel 12 mounted between two discs 10, 10<SP>1</SP> which are rotatable about a central shaft and which also support an empty mandrel 13 provided with an adhesive-coated cardboard sleeve 24. When the coil 39 has reached a predetermined diameter the discs 10, 101 are rotated 180 degrees to bring the empty mandrel 13 into the winding position (Fig. 2, not shown); a pneumatic cylinder 30 is actuated to swing a pressure roller 26 into contact with the web which is thus pressed on to the prepared sleeve 24, and then pneumatic cylinder 31 is actuated so that a knife 38 swings on arms 37, 37<SP>1</SP> to sever the web between the mandrel 12 and the wound coil 39 (Fig. 3, not shown). The knife 38 is then withdrawn, but as winding proceeds the roller 26 remains in contact with the coil, at first under pressure from the cylinder 31 and then, after a few convolutions have been wound, under the influence of gravity to ensure a compact winding free of air inclusions.
