Abstract
1307259 Curing epoxy resins NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 16 Sept 1971 [24 Sept 1970 30 April 1971] 45609/70 and 12542/71 Heading C3B Epoxy resins are cured using a curing agent comprising a complex of a Friedel-Craft's catalyst (I) with an aqueous strong non-carboxylic acid or an aqueous fluoacid. I may be BF 3 , SbCl 5 , TiCl 4 , SiCl 4 , FeCl 3 , AlCl 3 or SnCl 4 ; the acid may be HNO 3 , HCl, HF or a sulphonic acid, e.g. p-toluenesulphonic acid or benzene-mdisulphonic acid. The ratio of curing agent to epoxy resin may be 0À02-0À2 ml./gm. An inert Miller filler, e.g. SiO 2 , at up to 4 parts by wt. per part by wt. of resin may also be present. The ratio of I to the acid soln. may be 1 : 2 to 1 : 4, by weight. The curable composition of the invention may be in the form of a " twocomponent pack " the contents of which on mixing form the composition. It may be in the form of capsules in which either (a) the resin and curing agent are in separate capsules which may be ruptured when the composition is required or (b) in the same capsule which contains a membrane to prevent them from inter-reacting. Uses.-Filling dental cavities.
