Abstract
1305999 Thermally insulated pipes; thermal insulation KABEL-UND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 19 Oct 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 48524/71 Headings F2P and F2X A thermally insulated pipe comprises an inner tube 1 and a sheath 2 of thermoplastic material which contains a filler comprising hollow, round glass micro-balloons of diameter between 5 and 250 microns. The filler constitutes from 30% to 80% by volume of the sheath material and the volume of the micro-balloons includes about 80%-90% of air or other gas. The thermoplastic may be PVC and the sheath may be applied to the inner tube, e.g. a seamless copper tube, as an extrusion or in the form of a plastisol or other gelling paste. An outer layer 3 of PVC or polyethylene may be added. The inside surface of the sheath 2 may be formed with longitudinally extending ribs 4. A foaming agent may be added to the composition from which the sheath 2 is formed.
