Abstract
1305994 Gas burners ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 13 April 1970 [27 June 1969] 17446/70 Heading F4T A gas burner 10 comprises a refractory-lined combustion chamber 20 with a circular discharge outlet and a circular inlet for the introduction of fuel and an air stream, a cylindrical swirl sleeve 2 fed with air from a plenum chamber 6 via tangential nozzles 3 to pass a swirling stream of air into the chamber 20, and a burner ring 4, preferably of triangular crosssection, containing ports 5 positioned adjacent the inlet so that gas discharged therefrom converges in the chamber, preferably at an angle substantially equal to the divergent angle of an annular fillet 14. Air passageways 16 permit air flow between plenum chamber 6 and chamber 20 to cool the ring which is positioned behind the inlet and thus substantially shielded from direct radiation from the combustion chamber.
